Final Project : System Administration Consultation

Final Project Intro

To recap, in this module we’ve covered the responsibilities of a sysadmin and an IT support specialist, including the hardware lifecycle, provisioning software, administration of IT infrastructure and services, organizational policy and management, Active Directory and OpenLDAP, backup and recovery services, and, of course, troubleshooting everything. Also, we learned a bunch of networking stuff!

For this final project we will be conducting an IT assessment of three fictitious companies.

There are two goals outlined for this project:

1. Use the systems administration concepts you learned in the course to provide technical improvements to current processes.

2. Implement solutions based on an organization’s restrictions, like financial resources, number of users, etc.

Answers

Q.1  Network Funtime Company is a small company that builds open-source software. The company is made up software engineers, a few designers, one person in Human Resources (HR), and a small sales team. Altogether, there are 100 employees. They recently hired you as a system administrator to come in and become their IT department....so on.

Answer :
Here are 100 employees in Network Fun Time company. First thing first, getting the cheapest model and variety of laptops should be abolished, not only beacuse it's the company expenses but for the sake of security assets and for exact time providing laptops there should be some full functional laptops before hand in the company.
Setting up things in cloud seems pretty good, but HR giving hours to individual seems not good enough, we should do the documentation of works and faqs needed before configuring the computer according to companies server.

Q.2 W.D. Widgets is a small company that sells widgets. They’re mostly made up of salespeople who work with lots of clients. You’ve taken over as the sole IT person for this company of 80-100 people... so on.

Answer :
Five process improvements are as follows :

1. User Management / GPO setting

The users receive a username that we generate for them. We then give them an orientation on how to login when they start. So we currently manage all of our machines using Windows Active Directory.

2. Server Orientation

The company uses only Windows computers, so whenever a new computer is provisioned, you have to install lots of sales-specific applications manually onto every machine. This takes a few hours of our time for each machine.

3. Fast Work

Things takes hours of our time for each machine. When someone has an IT-related request, they email us directly to help them.

4. Local Backups + Cloud Storage

Almost all software is kept in-house, meaning that you’re responsible for the email server, local machine software, and instant messenger. None of the company’s services are kept on the cloud.

Customer data is stored on a single file server. When a new salesperson starts, you also map this file server onto their local machine, so that they can access it like a directory. Whoever creates a folder on this server owns that folder and everything in it. There are no backups to this critical customer data. If a user deletes something, it may be lost for everyone.

5.  Hiring Assistance

So we should hire an assistant now, before the workload increases beyond what you can handle alone. we may want to hire someone to take on a defined part of the IT responsibilities, such as low-level helpdesk/support tech.

Q.3 Dewgood is a small, local non-profit company of 50 employees. They hired you as the sole IT person in the company. The HR person tells you when they need a new computer for an employee. Currently, computers are purchased directly in a physical store on the day that an employee is hired. This is due to budget reasons, as they can’t keep extra stock in the store.Dewgood is a small, local non-profit company of 50 employees. They hired you as the sole IT person in the company. Answer :

The backup system is, in my opinion, the most concerning aspect of this business. Making a disc backup isn't a bad idea, but driving around with one seems like a recipe for disaster. Make a cloud backup, an onsite disc backup, and a third backup that the IT individual will drive around with.
The ticketing system should be replaced, or workers should be taught how to use it. It must be in use and effective for people to use it if it is present.
This organisation should reconfigure AD with responsibilities and GPOs for users so that applications can be enabled on their computers automatically when they log in. Accounts must be maintained, and users must be deleted when they leave the business.
And we should buy a website hosting cheap and easy to do work with.
